MONTREAL – Forward Charles-Antoine Dumont of Lévis, Que., was named most valuable player and appointed team captain as the McGill University men's hockey program officially wrapped up its 149th year of operations with the 46th annual Friends of McGill Hockey awards gala, Saturday.
 
The event was held on campus at Thomson House, a private social club and home of the Post-Graduate Students' Society, on McTavish Street.
 
Dumont was presented with the Dr. Bobby Bell Memorial Bowl, which has been awarded to the Team MVP since 1950. And in an emotional ceremony, graduating team captain Alexandre Gagnon passed the leadership baton to Dumont.
 
Other major honourees included goaltender Nicolas Ruccia of Laval, Que., who merited two awards, including the Friends of McGill Hockey Trophy as rookie of the year and the Molson Cup for most three-star selections over the 36 games played overall.
 
The final laureate is defenceman Alexandre Pellerin of Victoriaville, Que., who received the Albert Fyon Trophy as most improved player.

The soirée featured a heartfelt tribute to six graduating seniors, a group that included outgoing captain Alexandre Gagnon (B.Ed '24 / MA '26) and his younger brother Mathieu Gagnon (B.Com '26), both of them forwards, along with defenceman Alexandre Blanchard (B.Com '26) in addition to forwards Patrick Larkin (BA '26), William Rouleau (B.Com '26) and Mikisiw Awashish (B.Eng '26). Larkin addressed teammates and alumni via a video message from Innsbruck, Austria, where he was representing Great Britain, his native homeland, at an international Ultimate Hockey 3x3 tournament. 
 
Each senior received their game jersey, a framed photo portrait, a monogrammed team mug and a traditional McGill necktie.

Alumni in attendance for the event represented seven decades of McGill hockey dating back to the 1960s.
 
The 2025-26 season featured a return to the refurbished McConnell Arena after a season of playing home games at Place Bell in Laval, Que.
 
McGill iced a youthful lineup that featured 12 freshmen, four sophomores, four juniors and six seniors.
 
Fifth-year bench boss David Urquhart, guided the squad to its 21st consecutive playoff berth. The team posted a 19-17 record overall. In regular season play, the Redbirds had a 16-8-4 record and finished third of nine teams in the highly-competitive OUA East division that featured the eventual national champion for the third time in five years.
 
In the playoffs, McGill suffered a two-game sweep to sixth-place Queen's in the OUA East quarter-finals. The Gaels proceeded to upset second-place Concordia in the semifinals before falling to division-leading UQTR, which went on to capture the league's Queen's Cup title and the University Cup national championship in Halifax.
 
DR. BOBBY BELL MEMORIAL BOWL (most valuable player):
 
Charles-Antoine Dumont, a 5-foot-10, 181-pound right-winger, led the team with 16 goals and had 35 points in 33 games overall. The 23-year-old management junior added four power-play goals, one shorthanded effort, three first goals and one game-winning tally. He took only six penalties for 12 minutes. Dumont led the OUA East in scoring and was voted an OUA East first-team all-star.

Nicolas Ruccia, a 6-foot-1, 176-pound netminder, saw action in 31 of the team's 36 games overall. He posted a 14-14 record with two shutouts, a 2.61 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. He was selected as one of three stars in 14 contests. The 21-year-old is in a special undergraduate program in the faculty of Continuing Studies.
 
ALBERT FYON TROPHY (most improved player):

Alexandre Pellerin, a six-foot, 179-pound blueliner, dressed in 34 of the team's 36 games. The 21-year-old Arts freshman scored six points, including a pair of goals, and displayed a measure of toughness with 54 penalty minutes.

Dumont nommé joueur par excellence et capitaine alors que le programme de hockey de McGill conclut sa 149e saison lors de son gala annuel

MONTRÉAL – L'attaquant Charles-Antoine Dumont, de Lévis (Qc), a été nommé joueur par excellence et désigné capitaine de l'équipe alors que le programme de hockey masculin de l'Université McGill a officiellement conclu sa 149e année d'activités lors du 46e gala annuel des Amis du hockey de McGill, samedi.

L'événement se déroulait sur le campus, au Thomson House, un club social privé qui abrite la Post-Graduate Students' Society, sur la rue McTavish.

Dumont a reçu le Bol commémoratif Dr-Bobby-Bell, remis au joueur par excellence de l'équipe depuis 1950. Dans une cérémonie empreinte d'émotion, le capitaine sortant Alexandre Gagnon lui a également transmis le flambeau du leadership.

Parmi les autres lauréats de marque, le gardien Nicolas Ruccia, de Laval (Qc), s'est distingué en remportant deux honneurs, soit le trophée des Amis du hockey de McGill à titre de recrue de l'année et la Coupe Molson, remise au joueur ayant obtenu le plus de sélections parmi les trois étoiles au cours des 36 matchs disputés.

Le dernier grand honneur est revenu au défenseur Alexandre Pellerin, de Victoriaville (Qc), récipiendaire du trophée Albert-Fyon à titre de joueur le plus amélioré.

La soirée a été marquée par un hommage touchant à six finissants, dont le capitaine sortant Alexandre Gagnon (B. Éd. '24 / M.A. '26) et son frère cadet Mathieu Gagnon (B.Com. '26), tous deux attaquants, le défenseur Alexandre Blanchard (B.Com. '26), ainsi que les attaquants Patrick Larkin (B.A. '26), William Rouleau (B.Com. '26) et Mikisiw Awashish (B. Ing. '26). Larkin s'est adressé à ses coéquipiers et aux anciens par message vidéo depuis Innsbruck, en Autriche, où il représentait la Grande-Bretagne, son pays natal, dans un tournoi international de hockey 3 contre 3 (Ultimate Hockey).

Chaque finissant a reçu son chandail de match, un portrait encadré, une tasse de l'équipe gravée à son nom ainsi que la traditionnelle cravate de McGill.

Des anciens présents à l'événement représentaient sept décennies d'histoire 
du hockey de McGill depuis les années 1960.

La saison 2025-2026 a notamment été marquée par un retour à l'aréna McConnell, rénové, après une année passée à disputer les matchs locaux à la Place Bell, à Laval.

McGill a aligné une formation jeune composée de 12 recrues, quatre joueurs de deuxième année, quatre de troisième année et six finissants.

À sa cinquième saison à la barre de l'équipe, l'entraîneur-chef David Urquhart a mené la formation à une 21e participation consécutive aux séries éliminatoires. L'équipe a présenté un dossier global de 19-17. En saison régulière, les Redbirds ont affiché une fiche de 16-8-4, bonne pour le troisième rang sur neuf équipes dans la très relevée division Est de l'OUA, qui comptait éventuellement le champion national pour une troisième fois en cinq ans.

En séries, McGill a été éliminée en deux matchs par Queen's, sixième au classement, en quart de finale de l'Est de l'OUA. Les Gaels ont ensuite causé la surprise en éliminant Concordia, classée deuxième, en demi-finale, avant de s'incliner face à l'UQTR, meneur de la division, qui a par la suite remporté la Coupe Queen's de l'OUA ainsi que le championnat canadien de la Coupe universitaire à Halifax.

BOL COMMÉMORATIF DR-BOBBY-BELL (joueur par excellence)
Charles-Antoine Dumont, ailier droit de 5 pi 10 po et 181 lb, a dominé l'équipe avec 16 buts et 35 points en 33 matchs. Âgé de 23 ans, cet étudiant en gestion de troisième année a ajouté quatre buts en avantage numérique, un en désavantage, trois premiers buts du match et un but gagnant. Il n'a écopé que de six pénalités pour un total de 12 minutes. Dumont a terminé au premier rang des marqueurs dans l'Est de l'OUA et a été nommé sur la première équipe d'étoiles de la division.

Nicolas Ruccia, gardien de but de 6 pi 1 po et 176 lb, a pris part à 31 des 36 matchs de l'équipe. Il a compilé une fiche de 14-14 avec deux jeux blancs, une moyenne de buts alloués de 2,61 et un pourcentage d'arrêts de ,921. Il a été nommé parmi les trois étoiles à 14 reprises. Âgé de 21 ans, il est inscrit à un programme de premier cycle à la Faculté d'éducation permanente.

TROPHÉE ALBERT-FYON (joueur le plus amélioré)
Alexandre Pellerin, défenseur de six pieds et 179 lb, a disputé 34 des 36 matchs de l'équipe. Étudiant de première année en arts âgé de 21 ans, il a récolté six points, dont deux buts, et a démontré sa robustesse avec 54 minutes de pénalité.
