MONTREAL — McGill University hockey alumnus Patrick Delisle-Houde has been appointed head coach of the Carleton Ravens men's hockey team, the program announced Thursday.
Delisle-Houde departs McGill after five seasons behind the bench as an associate coach with the Redbirds, marking the next step in a career that has already spanned the university, professional and academic ranks.
"It's sad to see him leave but we're really happy for PDH," said McGill head coach David Urquhart. "He's definitely ready to be a head coach and it's a good move for him and his young family. His commitment, dedication, and passion have been unmatched in the five years he has coached the Redbirds. Despite the fact he is moving on he will always be a member of our team for life.That said, he will be dearly missed and we thank Pat for being and outstanding ambassador for our program."
A 34-year-old native of Quebec City, Delisle-Houde returned to McGill in 2021 following four years with the NHL's Montreal Canadiens, where he served as strength and conditioning coordinator. He is in the final stages of completing his doctoral studies at McGill, having already earned a bachelor of science in kinesiology in 2015 and a master's degree in 2017.
Known widely by his initials, "PDH" has also built an impressive academic profile, publishing several essays focused on training methods, strength and conditioning, and physiology.
As a student-athlete, Delisle-Houde enjoyed a distinguished five-year career with McGill from 2012 to 2017. The six-foot-one, 194-pound forward missed just four games over that span, appearing in 204 contests — the second-highest total in program history, seven shy of Evan Vossen's record.
He amassed 171 career points, including 68 goals, while adding 318 penalty minutes. Delisle-Houde served as team captain in his final two seasons, helping McGill reach two University Cup championship tournaments. Before attending McGill in 2012, he played four seasons in the QMJHL with Rimouski and Moncton. In his final year, he served as the captain for the Wildcats. Delisle-Houde also appeared in the 2009 Memorial Cup tournament while with Rimouski.
In his freshman campaign in 2012-13, he earned Ontario University Athletics (OUA) all-rookie team honours and was awarded the Guy Lafleur Trophy, presented annually to the Quebec university player who best combines hockey excellence with academic success and citizenship.
A model student-athlete, Delisle-Houde was named an Academic All-Canadian in each of his five seasons and earned a place on the Principal's Student-Athlete Honour Roll every year.
Delisle-Houde now takes over a Carleton program looking to rebuild in U SPORTS competition, while McGill bids farewell to one of its most accomplished leaders both on and off the ice.

L'ex-McGillois Delisle-Houde nommé entraîneur-chef des Ravens de Carleton
MONTRÉAL — L'ancien des Redbirds de l'Université McGill, Patrick Delisle-Houde, a été nommé entraîneur-chef de l'équipe masculine de hockey des Ravens de Carleton, a annoncé le programme jeudi.
Delisle-Houde quitte McGill après cinq saisons derrière le banc à titre d'entraîneur adjoint, franchissant ainsi une nouvelle étape dans un parcours qui l'a mené à travers les milieux universitaire, professionnel et académique.
« C'est triste de le voir partir, mais nous sommes très heureux pour PDH, a déclaré l'entraîneur-chef de McGill, David Urquhart. Il est assurément prêt à devenir entraîneur-chef et c'est une excellente décision pour lui et sa jeune famille. Son engagement, son dévouement et sa passion ont été inégalés au cours des cinq années qu'il a passées avec les Redbirds. Même s'il poursuit maintenant sa route ailleurs, il fera toujours partie de notre équipe. Cela dit, il nous manquera énormément et nous remercions Pat d'avoir été un ambassadeur exceptionnel pour notre programme. »
Âgé de 34 ans et originaire de Québec, Delisle-Houde était revenu à McGill en 2021 après un séjour de quatre ans avec les Canadiens de Montréal, dans la LNH, où il occupait le poste de coordonnateur de la préparation physique. Il en est présentement aux dernières étapes de son doctorat à McGill, après avoir obtenu un baccalauréat en kinésiologie en 2015 et une maîtrise en 2017.
Surnommé « PDH », il s'est également illustré sur le plan académique, publiant plusieurs essais portant notamment sur les méthodes d'entraînement, la préparation physique et la physiologie.
Comme étudiant-athlète, Delisle-Houde a connu une brillante carrière de cinq saisons avec McGill, de 2012 à 2017. L'attaquant de six pieds un pouce et 194 livres n'a raté que quatre matchs durant cette période, prenant part à 204 rencontres — le deuxième plus haut total de l'histoire du programme, à sept matchs du record d'Evan Vossen.

Avant de se joindre à McGill en 2012, il a disputé quatre saisons dans la LHJMQ avec Rimouski et Moncton. À sa dernière campagne junior, il a porté le « C » des Wildcats. Delisle-Houde a également participé au tournoi de la Coupe Memorial en 2009 avec l'Océanic de Rimouski.
À sa saison recrue en 2012-2013, il a été nommé à l'équipe d'étoiles des recrues du SUO (OUA) et a remporté le trophée Guy-Lafleur, remis annuellement au joueur universitaire québécois qui se distingue à la fois sur la glace, sur les bancs d'école et dans la communauté.
Étudiant-athlète exemplaire, Delisle-Houde a été nommé Canadien universitaire à cinq reprises et a figuré chaque année au tableau d'honneur des étudiants-athlètes du principal.
Delisle-Houde prend maintenant les rênes d'un programme de Carleton en quête de renouveau au sein de U SPORTS, tandis que McGill voit partir l'un de ses leaders les plus accomplis, tant sur la glace qu'à l'extérieur.
