MONTREAL — Three members of the McGill Redbirds were honoured Wednesday as Ontario University Athletics announced its men's hockey major awards and all-stars following a vote by the league's 19 head coaches.
Forward Charles-Antoine Dumont was named a first-team all-star in the OUA East Division, defenceman Thomas Belzile earned second-team honours and Mikisiw Awashish received the OUA East's Champion of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award.
Dumont, a five-foot-10, 181-pound right-winger from Lévis, Que., led the OUA East in scoring and ranked fourth overall in the conference with 33 points, including 15 goals, in 28 regular-season games. The 23-year-old management junior added three power-play goals, one short-handed marker and one game-winning goal, while taking just four minor penalties for eight minutes.
Belzile, a six-foot-three, 191-pound rearguard from Ste-Julie, Que., finished fourth among East Division defencemen in scoring and 11th overall at his position across the conference. The 23-year-old economics junior recorded seven goals and 19 points in 26 regular-season contests. He contributed one power-play goal, one short-handed goal and one game-winner, and logged nine minor penalties for 18 minutes.
Awashish earned the division's EDI award for the second time in four years, recognizing his leadership both within the Redbirds program and in the broader community.
The 24-year-old civil engineering senior from Mashteuiatsh, Que., appeared in 25 regular-season games, registering 11 points, including five goals, while serving as an alternate captain. A reliable, defensive-minded centre, he was assessed just two minor penalties all season.
Beyond his on-ice contributions, Awashish played a central role in organizing a preseason game in his hometown of Mashteuiatsh, an Innu community on the shores of Lac Saint-Jean, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Working alongside McGill's coaching staff, university officials and community leaders, he helped coordinate a two-day visit that included youth practices led by Redbirds players, participation in community events and ceremonies with Elders, and an exhibition game against the UQTR Patriotes.
The initiative provided young athletes in the region an opportunity to interact with university players while highlighting pathways to higher education and sport. It also reinforced McGill's ongoing commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion through meaningful community engagement.

Un trio des Redbirds honoré par le SUO; Dumont et Belzile choisis étoiles, Awashish reçoit le prix EDI
MONTRÉAL — Trois membres des Redbirds de l'Université McGill ont été honorés mercredi lorsque Sports universitaires de l'Ontario (SUO) a dévoilé ses principaux prix et équipes d'étoiles au hockey masculin, à la suite d'un vote des 19 entraîneurs-chefs du circuit.
L'attaquant Charles-Antoine Dumont a été nommé sur la première équipe d'étoiles de la division Est, le défenseur Thomas Belzile a obtenu une place sur la deuxième équipe, tandis que Mikisiw Awashish a reçu le prix du Champion de l'équité, de la diversité et de l'inclusion de la division Est.
Dumont, un ailier droit de 1,78 m et 82 kg originaire de Lévis, a dominé la division Est du SUO au chapitre des points et s'est classé au quatrième rang du circuit avec 33 points, dont 15 buts, en 28 matchs de saison régulière. L'étudiant de troisième année en gestion, âgé de 23 ans, a ajouté trois buts en avantage numérique, un en infériorité numérique et un but gagnant. Il n'a écopé que de quatre pénalités mineures pour un total de huit minutes.
Belzile, un défenseur de 1,91 m et 87 kg natif de Sainte-Julie, a terminé au quatrième rang des pointeurs chez les défenseurs de la division Est et au 11e rang du SUO à sa position. L'étudiant de troisième année en économie, également âgé de 23 ans, a récolté sept buts et 19 points en 26 rencontres de saison régulière. Il a inscrit un but en avantage numérique, un en infériorité numérique et un but gagnant, tout en purgeant neuf pénalités mineures pour 18 minutes.
Awashish a pour sa part mis la main sur le prix EDI de la division pour une deuxième fois en quatre ans, une distinction qui souligne son leadership au sein du programme des Redbirds et dans la communauté.
L'étudiant de quatrième année en génie civil, âgé de 24 ans et originaire de Mashteuiatsh, a disputé 25 matchs de saison régulière, amassant 11 points, dont cinq buts, en plus d'assumer un rôle de capitaine adjoint. Centre reconnu pour sa fiabilité et son jeu défensif, il n'a été puni que deux fois durant toute la saison.
Au-delà de la patinoire, Awashish a joué un rôle central dans l'organisation d'un match préparatoire disputé dans sa communauté natale de Mashteuiatsh, une communauté innue située sur les rives du lac Saint-Jean, dans le cadre de la Journée nationale de la vérité et de la réconciliation.
En collaboration avec le personnel d'entraîneurs de McGill, des représentants de l'université et des leaders communautaires, il a contribué à coordonner une visite de deux jours comprenant des séances d'entraînement destinées aux jeunes, la participation à des activités communautaires et à des cérémonies avec des aînés, ainsi qu'un match hors concours face aux Patriotes de l'UQTR.
L'initiative a permis aux jeunes athlètes de la région d'échanger avec des joueurs universitaires tout en mettant en lumière les possibilités offertes par les études supérieures et le sport. Elle a également réaffirmé l'engagement de McGill envers l'équité, la diversité et l'inclusion par des actions concrètes au sein de la communauté.
