(VERSION FRANÇAISE SUIT)
OTTAWA — Harry Corkum scored four tries and James Allan contributed a game-high 21 points as McGill overwhelmed Carleton 71-0 in RSEQ men's rugby action at Ravens' Field on Saturday.
Corkum, a mechanical engineering senior, accounted for 20 points and was named McGill's player of the game as the Redbirds scored 11 tries while keeping the Ravens off the scoresheet. It was McGill's first shutout since a 57-0 non-conference win over Harvard on Oct. 19, 2024, and its first in league play since an 85-0 victory over Carleton on Sept. 21, 2024.
Corkum's four tries were one shy of the McGill single-game record of five, set by Robert Ashe in a 76-15 RSEQ semifinal victory over Bishop's on Nov. 11, 2012.
Allan, an exchange student from the University of Edinburgh, also had a productive afternoon, scoring one try and converting eight of McGill's 11 majors. His eight conversions were one shy of the team single-game record of nine, set by Martin Laval on Sept. 10, 2023.
The victory improved McGill's record to 2-1, while Carleton remained winless at 0-3.
Six other Redbirds found the try zone. Roberto Frascione, James Mason, James Pitman, Hayden Pringle, Nicolas Tissier and Hugo Louis-Vicente each scored once.
The 71-point margin was McGill's largest since the 85-0 win over Carleton two years ago, while the 71 points ranked as the eighth-highest offensive output in program history. It fell 17 points shy of the school record, established in an 88-5 victory over École de technologie supérieure on Sept. 9, 2007.
The result marked McGill's fifth consecutive victory over Carleton and improved the Redbirds' all-time record against the Ravens to 5-0.
McGill also earned a bonus point for scoring at least four tries. At the halfway mark of the season, the Redbirds sit fourth in the seven-team RSEQ conference with 10 points, five behind the third-place Montreal Carabins (3-0) and nine ahead of fifth-place Concordia (0-3).
The Redbirds will return home to host Ottawa on Oct. 10 at Percival Molson Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Carleton travels to Bishop's on Oct. 9 for an 8 p.m. kickoff.
