McGill’s Frattaroli signs pro pact with Frederikshavn White Hawks in Denmark’s top league

MONTREAL — Brandon Frattaroli, an all-star forward for the McGill University men's hockey team, has signed a professional contract with the Frederikshavn White Hawks of Denmark's Superisligaen, also known as the Metal Ligaen, the country's top professional hockey circuit.

He is the second member of the Redbirds to sign in the past few days and becomes the 107th McGill hockey player in team history to ink a pro deal. Frattaroli will be the fifth McGillian to play pro hockey in Denmark, joining a group that includes David Burgess (Sønderjyske, 2005-2007), Guillaume Doucet (Herlev, 2014-15), Francis Verreault-Paul (Gentofte, 2015-16) and Mathieu Pompei (Rungsted, 2022-23).

Frattaroli, who recently graduated with an Arts degree, majoring in industrial relations, served as an alternate captain in his senior year. A six-foot, 199-pound forward from the Montreal suburb of Pierrefonds, Que., the 24-year-old concluded a distinguished four-year stint with the McGill Redbirds. In 137 career games overall, he tallied 142 points, including 62 goals, along with 97 penalty minutes. In 92 regular season contests, he posted a 48-59-107 record with 81 PIMs.

Frattaroli capped his productive collegiate career by meriting OUA East first-team all-star status after leading the league with 21 goals in 28 games and tying for tops in the nation in that department, He also won the Bobby Bell Trophy as the team's most valuable player to conclude a brilliant 2024-25 season. Among his standout performances with the Redbirds was a natural hat-trick in a 5-2 win over the UQTR Patriotes on Jan. 5, 2025, and a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in McGill's 3-2 bronze-medal victory over Toronto Metropolitan University at the 2024 U SPORTS national championship tournament.

Frattaroli was recruited to McGill in 2021 after playing junior in the QMJHL, where he skated for Baie Comeau, Gatineau and the Quebec Remparts.

Frederikshavn is based in northern Denmark and the team is coming off a 24-20-4 sixth-place finish in the nine-team league. The White Hawks were founded in 1964, have won the Danish title twice (1989, 2000) and have been runners-up three times (2008, 2011, 2013)

The McGill hockey program, which played its first game way back in 1877, recently concluded its 149th year of operation and secured a playoff berth for the 20th consecutive season in 2024-25. The Redbirds posted an 18-9-1 fourth-place finish in the nine-team OUA East, a highly-competitive division that produced the U SPORTS champions (Ottawa) and the national runners-up (Concordia).
