MIDDLEBURY, VT –
Vanessa Lu Langley of Ottawa produced a pair of podium finishes and broke a fieldhouse record to pace the McGill Martlets at the Middlebury College Field & Track Meet on Saturday.
There was no team scoring but the Martlets won three gold medals, an equal number of silvers and a pair of bronze medals.
Also winning gold for McGill was
Lola Ross-McLennan of Vancouver, B.C., and
Ella Villeneuve of nearby Richmond, Vt.
Lu Langley, a 24-year-old chemical engineering senior, posted gold and bronze medal performances. The 5-foot-3 sprinter won the women's 60-metre hurdles with a Virtue Field House record time of 8.68 seconds, erasing the previous mark of 8.74 set in 2018 by Albany's Niamani Morrison. The time was just 0.13 seconds shy of the McGill record. She finished third in the 60m dash, crossing the line in 8.19 seconds.
Ross-McLennan, a 21-year-old Arts senior majoring in international development studies, finished ahead of Lu Langley in the 60m sprint, winning the race with a Middlebury meet record time of 7.85 seconds, within reach of the school benchmark (7.32).
Villeneuve, a 5-foot-8 throws specialist, won the weight throw with a toss of 13.57m. The 21-year-old anatomy and cellular biology junior also placed 12th in the shotput (9.31m).
Other McGillians to finish on the podium were
Sophie Rashid-Cocker (silver, mile run, 5:16.98),
Kaelie Sanogo (silver, high jump, 1.50m),
Julie Bortolato (silver, pole vault, 3.25m) and
Arowyn Fitzpatrick (bronze, 600m, 1:41.45).
Next on tap is a busy weekend for McGill, which will send a split squad to simultaneous competitions in different cities: the Boston University Valentine Invitational and the Carleton Last Chance Qualifying Meet in Ottawa, Feb. 14-15.
