MONTREAL — McGill exploded for five second-half tries to defeat Concordia 50-25 on Saturday in the final RSEQ men's rugby game of the regular season, clinching second place in the standings and a home semifinal berth.

The Redbirds (5-1-0) scored eight tries in total, earning a bonus point for the fourth time in six outings. The victory means McGill will host the third-place Montreal Carabins (3-2-1) in an RSEQ semifinal on Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. at Percival Molson Stadium. In their previous meeting this season, McGill downed the Carabins 24-5 on Oct. 11.

Concordia (1-4-1) finished sixth in the seven-team conference and was eliminated from playoff contention.

Harry Corkum and Elliot Descarreaux each tallied a pair of tries for McGill, while Brad Hunger, Nicolas Vicente-Louis, Adam Virani and Toby Ferneyhough also touched down. Martin Laval added five conversion for a total of 10 points.

Phil Hacala led the Stingers with two penalty goals and a conversion for 10 points, while Jaxon Alexander scored two tries and Khaled Abu-Yahia added another.

The other RSEQ semifinal will feature Bishop's (3-3-0) visiting first-place ETS (6-0-0).

Les huit essais marqués par McGill éliminent Concordia et leur permettent d'accéder à la demi-finale contre les Carabins

MONTRÉAL — McGill a explosé avec cinq essais en deuxième mi-temps pour battre Concordia 50-25 samedi lors du dernier match de rugby masculin de la saison régulière du RSEQ, décrochant ainsi la deuxième place du classement et une place en demi-finale à domicile.

Les Redbirds (5-1-0) ont marqué huit essais au total, obtenant un point bonus pour la quatrième fois en six matchs. Grâce à cette victoire, McGill accueillera les Carabins de Montréal (3-2-1), troisièmes au classement, en demi-finale du RSEQ le 24 octobre à 20 h au stade Percival Molson. Lors de leur précédente rencontre cette saison, McGill avait battu les Carabins 24-5 le 11 octobre.

Concordia (1-4-1) a terminé sixième de la conférence à sept équipes et a été éliminée de la course aux séries éliminatoires.

Harry Corkum et Elliot Descarreaux ont chacun marqué deux essais pour McGill, tandis que Brad Hunger, Nicolas Vicente-Louis, Adam Virani et Toby Ferneyhough ont également marqué. Martin Laval a ajouté cinq transformations pour un total de 10 points.

Phil Hacala a mené les Stingers avec deux pénalités et une transformation pour un total de 10 points, tandis que Jaxon Alexander a marqué deux essais et Khaled Abu-Yahia en a ajouté un autre.

L'autre demi-finale de la RSEQ opposera Bishop's (3-3-0) à ETS (6-0-0), qui occupe la première place.
