William Sanders both produced gold medal performances as the McGill university men's track and field team finished second of 10 schools at the Sherbrooke Invitational, a two-day meet on the 200-metre flat track that concluded Sunday at the Centre Sportif.
No records fell but the Redbirds finished with seven podiums, including four silver medals and a bronze. Laval finished first with 136.8 points. McGill was second with 123.8, followed by Montreal (90), Sherbrooke (58.8), Carleton (42.5) UQTR (30), UQAC (14), ETS (13), Concordia (4) and Collège Militaire Royale (3).
Chapple, a management senior from Toronto, won the men's 1,000m race in two minutes, 29.67 seconds., a time that was just five seconds off the team record.
Sanders, a chemical engineering freshman from Ottawa, claimed victory the 300m in 36.33 seconds, also within reach of the school record of 34.14.
This was the second of seven meets scheduled for the U SPORTS indoor season that began in December. Up next for McGill is the uOttawa Winter Classic at the Louis Riel Dome in the nation's capital, Jan. 17-18.
