MONTREAL –
Luca Nicoletti of Ottawa won gold and was within reach of a school record as the McGill men's track and field season kicked off at the Martlet Invitational, an open meet held at Tomlinson Fieldhouse, Saturday.
There was no team scoring in the competition, which featured a combined 340 male and female athletes, mostly from local track clubs.
The McGill Redbirds produced 10 podiums, including three gold medals, five silvers and a pair of bronzes.
Nicoletti, a materials engineering junior, won the 300-metre sprint in 34.35 seconds, just shy of the school record (34.14).
The other redbirds who produced golden performances were
Esteban Hidalgo-Gonzalez , an architecture sophomore from Brooklyn, N.Y., in the 1000m (2:40.19) and
David Fitzgerald, an economics junior from Panama City, in the triple jump (14.03m).
