MONTREAL –
Jett Jarvis of Wyoming, Ont., and
Sienna Matheson from Kingston, Ont., are the McGill University athletes of the week, presented by
Restaurant Poulet Rouge, for the period ending Oct. 6, 2024.
Jarvis, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound centrefielder registered a lofty .714 batting average and guided McGill to a playoff doubleheader sweep over Concordia in the Quebec University Baseball League last Saturday. The Redbirds hung on for an 8-7 victory in the opener, then won the nightcap 7-5 to advance to the League Championship Series against UQTR next weekend. Jarvis, a 22-year-old finance senior in the Desautels School of Management, went 5-for-7 at the plate, with a walk, a pair of doubles and an RBI. He scored five of McGill's 15 runs, stole two bases and had a pair of put-outs in the field. Jarvis enrolled at McGill in 2019 out of Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute in Petrolia, Ont.
Matheson, a 20-year-old distance runner on the women's cross-country team, finish second of 81 runners and guided the Martlets to third place of six teams at the Laval Invitational meet on the Plains of Abraham, in Quebec City, last Saturday. The chemistry sophomore completed the eight-kilometre race in 30:34, which was 27 seconds behind the race winner. A product of Regiopolis Notre Dame Catholic High School in the nation's capital, Matheson enrolled at McGill in 2023.
