MONTREAL –
Donna Ntambue of McGill University broke a school record and posted a pair of silver medal performances en route to guiding the Martlets to finish fourth of 17 schools in the women's division of the 27th annual McGill Team Challenge track and field meet over the weekend at Tomlinson Fieldhouse, Jan. 26-27.

Laval racked up 13 podiums, including six gold medals and amassed 135 points to win the women's title of the two-day competition, which featured 734 athletes and was billed as the largest indoor meet in Canada. The Montreal Carabins finished second with 86 points, followed by Sherbrooke (74), McGill (66) and Queen's (50) to round out the top five.
One fieldhouse record fell, along with an RSEQ conference mark and three meet records, all on the women's side. Laval's
Audrey Leduc had three of them with her sizzling time of 7.29 seconds in the 60-metre sprint. It was the fastest 60m in the country this season, surpassing both the league (7.31) and meet records (7.34), in addition to matching the fieldhouse mark (7.29). The other meet marks to fall were in the 60m hurdles and 4x200m relay, erased respectively, by Sherbrooke's
Maoly St-Germain (8.52) and a foursome from Laval (1:37.66).
The Martlets produced five podiums, winning one gold, three silvers and a bronze.
Ntambue, a 5-foot-9 sprinter from Montreal, broke her own school record in the same 60m with a silver medal time of 7.32. It was the second fastest time in the country this season and just .03 seconds behind Leduc. Ntambue's performance erased the previous McGill record of 7.38 that she set at the same meet last season. The 22-year-old economics sophomore also ran the leadoff leg of the 4x200m relay, which finished second in 1:42.13. And she posted a fourth-place result in the 300m race which was clocked in 40.05 seconds, just missing the school record of 39.48.
Joining Ntambue on the relay was
Felicitas Zahlbruckner, an exchange student from Austria, freshman
Ellie Donahue of Kelowna, B.C., and
Bethany Walton-Knight, a junior from North Vancouver, B.C.
The Martlets's lone gold medal performance was produced by pole-vaulter
Rosalie Lupien, an economics senior from Longueuil, Que., who cleared a height of 3.30 metres. The school record is 3.65.
Rounding out McGill's podium finishes was a silver by freshman
Rebecca Warcholak of Toronto, in the triple jump (11.23m) and a bronze by senior
Emily Roest of Waterloo, Ont., in the high jump (1.57m).
Next on tap for McGill is the Ravens Last Chance Meet, another two-day competition, at the Louis Riel Dome in Ottawa, Feb. 17-18.
