The Montreal Carabins tallied 87 points to win the two-day competition, which featured 734 athletes and was billed as the largest indoor meet in Canada. McGill collected 81 points to finish ahead of Laval (79), Dalhousie (73) and York (56), to round out the top five.

The Redbirds captured three silver medals and five bronzes to produce one more podium finish than the Carabins, who had seven, including four golds, a pair of silvers and one bronze. Both Dalhousie (2-4-1) and Laval (1-1-5) also had seven podiums.

Geiger, a management senior from Toronto, was second in the 1000m, crossing the finish line in two minutes, 26.31 seconds, which was within reach of the school record (2:24.76). Geiger was even closer to breaking the team mark in the 600m, where he posted a third-place time of 1:19.59, fractions shy of the McGill standard  (1:19.15).

Nicoletti, an engineering sophomore from Ottawa, finished third in the 300m, crossing the line in 35.32 seconds, which was also just shy of a team record (35.14). He ran the second leg of the silver-medal winning 4x200m relay squad, which finished in 1:29.74. That quartet also included leadoff runner Ricardo Percopo, a junior from Boisbriand, Que., freshman Krescyn Moonsamy of Nanaimo, B.C., and anchor Jay Yetman, a freshman from Ottawa.

McGill's other silver medal finish was by veteran Kilty McGonigal, a civil engineering junior from Deux Montagnes, Que., who racked up 4,503 points in the heptathlon. The school record is 4,739.

The team's other bronze medal performances were achieved by Jack Stanley, a third-year doctorate candidate from Victoria, B.C., in the 3,000m (8:31.01), sophomore David Fitzgerald of Panama City, in the high jump (1.91m) and the 4x800 relay squad (8:25.15). That foursome was composed of sophomore Sean Adams from State College, Penn., freshman Jeremy Burg of St. Bruno, Que., freshman Sacha Dernoncourt of Baton Rouge, La., and Devin Chapple, a junior from Toronto.

Next on tap for McGill is the Ravens Last Chance Meet, another two-day competition, at the Louis Riel Dome in Ottawa, Feb. 17-18.
