MONTREAL – Four different players scored five points apiece as the voracious Piranhas from École de technologie supérieure pulled off a surprising 20-3 victory over McGill in men's university rugby before a boisterous crowd of 925 at Percival Molson Stadium, Saturday.
It marked the technology school's second-ever win in nine lifetime meetings with McGill and the first since a 17-12 victory on Sept. 23, 2017.
The Piranhas, who received all three yellow cards issued by the referee, led 8-3 at halftime and won the second stanza 12-0. ETS now leads the seven-team RSEQ conference with an unblemished 2-0 record.
Martin Laval, an outside centre who hails from France, scored the only points for McGill. The 21-year-old mathematics senior connected on a penalty kick in the 11h minute which narrowed the early deficit to 5-3.
ETS had tries from
Stanislas Bresse (3'),
Thibaud Roulier (47') and
Samuel Da Silva (65'). Rounding out the scoring for the visitors was
Jules Normandin, who tallied one penalty kick and added one conversion.
Both sides return to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 24, with Concordia (0-1) at ETS (2-0) in a 2 p.m. start, followed by McGill (1-1) at Ottawa (1-0) in a 7 p.m. kickoff on Terrain Matt Anthony.
