Fournier signs with ECHL team in Texas, becomes 100th McGill product to play pro hockey

MONTREAL – McGill hockey graduate Jordan-Ty Fournier has signed a contract to play with the Allen Americans, an ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Ottawa Senators. He becomes the 100th McGill product to play pro hockey.

Fournier, who served as the team's co-captain, joins an older brother, Stefan Fournier, with the ECHL's Americans.

A 26-year-old native of Dorval, Que., Fournier earned a bachelor of arts degree at McGill, majoring in industrial and labour relations. He is a 6-foot-1, 203-pound forward who played in four seasons over his five years with the Redbirds. In 112 games overall, he tallied 58 points, including 33 goals, and collected 148 penalty minutes. In regular season play, he posted a 19-15-34 record in 77 contests, with 112 PIMs. Fournier moved into higher gear during post-season play, with an 8-6-14 dossier and eight PIMs in 16 playoff games.

A product of minor hockey in Montreal's West Island region, Fournier played at the Under-15 AA level for the West Island Royals, followed by two seasons with the Lac St-Louis Lions of the Quebec Midget AAA league. He then spent four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he tallied 54 goals and 123 points with 400 PIMs in 250 regular season games with Victoriaville (2014-15) and Cape Breton (2015-2018).

The Americans, founded in 2009, are based in Allen, Texas, a northern suburb in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, with a population of about 105,000.
