Vanessa Lu Langley of Ottawa, was McGill's top-scoring athlete and shot putter
Ella Villeneuve of Richmond, Vt., registered the team's lone gold medal performance as the McGill women's track and field team finished second at the Laval Invitational meet, Saturday.
This was the first event on the brand-new Mondo surface at the Centre PEPS and the host Laval Rouge et or swept both the men's and women's divisions.
On the women's side, the defending conference champs scored 161 points, to finish first of seven universities. McGill, which competed without the services of star sprinter
Donna Ntambue, took home one gold medal, a silver and eight bronzes. The Martlets finished second overall with 121 points, followed by Montreal (51), Sherbrooke (28), UQTR (18) , UQAM (15) and UQAC (10).

Villeneuve, a 5-foot-8 science freshman, won the shot put with a throw of 9.56 metres.

Leila McFarland (12),
Lina Iklef (11) and the aforementioned Villeneuve (11).
A chemical engineering junior,
Lu Langley scored her points over three events. The 5-foot-3 sprinter won silver in the 60-metre hurdles, crossing the finish line in 9.35 seconds, behind Sherbrooke's
Maoly St-Germain (8.65). Lu Langley also anchored the 4x800 relay squad that earned bronze and she collected four more points in the 60m, placing fifth in 8.11 seconds.
Mitchell, a pharmacology senior from Nanaimo, B.C., scored points in three different events, with five in the long jump (4.75m), five in the shot put (9.26m) and three in the high jump (1.45m).
One meet remains for athletes to qualify for Nationals before the RSEQ conference championships, which will be hosted by McGill, Feb. 24-25. Before then, the Carleton Last Chance Meet is a two-day event slated for Feb. 17-18 in Ottawa.
