MEET SCHEDULE
INDIVIDUAL NATIONAL RANKINGS
The event, billed as the largest indoor track meet in Canada, will feature 48 teams and clubs, including 19 universities, 734 athletes and 1,110 total entries, all hoping to reach personal bests or qualifying standards for the U SPORTS national championships in Winnipeg, March 7-9.
Tomlinson Fieldhouse is located inside the Sir Arthur Currie gymnasium, located at 475 Avenue des Pins ouest. Tickets, available
online only, will be $15 for adults, $10 for students, McGill staff and seniors, and $5 for youths aged 16 or less.
Among the institutions registered at the McGill Team Challenge are 10 out of the Quebec-based RSEQ conference, six from the OUA and three from the AUS. The university teams expected to attend the meet from the RSEQ are McGill, Concordia, Montreal, Laval, Sherbrooke, UQAM, UQTR, UQAC, ETS and College Militaire Royale (CMR) at St. Jean. Representing the OUA conference is Carleton, Ottawa, Lakehead, Laurentian Queen's and York. Traveling from the maritime-based AUS conference is Dalhousie, UNB and Moncton.
The highest profile races of the Team Challenge are usually the 60m, 300m, 600m and 1000m, while the 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 relays, are arguably the most exciting events to watch.
Friday's schedule features heats and preliminaries during the day and finals in the evening. Although the schedule technically begins at 12 noon (Eastern) with the heptathlon and pentathlon, as well as the 1000m and 3000m distance races. Field events that follow on Day 1 include the triple jump and pole vault.
For the McGill men, all eyes will be on
Matthew Beaudet, an electrical engineering senior from Montreal's NDG borough, who holds the school record in the 1500m (3:48.01) and the 3000m (8:09.62).
On the McGill women's side,
Donna Ntambue , an economics sophomore from Montreal, will be looking to break her school record of 7.38 seconds in the 60m sprint, set at last year's Team Challenge.
The official opening ceremonies are scheduled for 5:30 p.m., followed by heats for the 60m dash, where the women will be chasing both the meet record (7.34 seconds) and the Fieldhouse standard (7.29).
The men's 60m heats follow and the marks to aim for are 6.71 (meet record) and the 6.56 (Fieldhouse record). The 60m finals are expected to begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by the 4x800 and 4x200 relays.
Saturday's events will be
streamed for free (with video only). The schedule begins with long jump at 9:30 a.m. and the 60m hurdles, then the 600m, high jump and shot put all before noon. After a lunch break, the meet will resume at 12:40 p.m. with the 300m, long jump, pole vault, high jump, the heptathlon final event (1000m), 1500m and shot put, concluding with the always exciting 4x400m relay.
