MONTREAL – Owen Cumming of Toronto scored 15 points and made a game-winning 22-yard penalty kick as McGill outlasted Bishop's for a 30-27 double overtime victory to cap a thrilling RSEQ men's rugby semifinal in rainy conditions at Percival Molson Stadium, Sunday.
 
McGill advances to the league championship game set for Saturday, Nov. 6 with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Molson Stadium. The Redbirds opponent will be cross-town rival Concordia, which defeated visiting Ottawa 37-21 in the other semifinal, Friday.
 
Luke Ayoub of Montreal scored a game-high 17 points in a losing cause for Bishop's but missed a chance to win the game on a failed conversion attempt in the dying seconds of regulation. He was trying to convert a try by Louis Millet of Toulouse, France, that knotted the score at 24-24.
 
Cumming, a 5-foot-10 scrumhalf, converted a pair of tries by Brad Hunger, a sophomore from Beaconsfield, Que. The political science senior went 3-for-6 on penalty kicks. Cumming redeemed himself on the winning kick after missing back-to-back penalty kicks minutes earlier.
 
Rounding out the scoring for McGill was Jeremy OckoMichalak, a fifth-year psychology senior from Los Angeles, who had put the Redbirds ahead 7-3 a minute  before halftime. Hunger scored his first try a minute later to give the host team a 14-3 advantage heading into the intermission.
 
The other try scorer for Bishop's was Colton Bennet, a native of Arundel, Que., who narrowed the gap to 24-19 in the 64th minute of play, setting the stage for Millet's major to send the game into overtime.
