QUEBEC CITY -- Daphne Danyluk and Clement Secchi each won four gold medals and were selected as swimmers of the meet as McGill dominated the third Quebec Cup competition of the season, Friday, at Université Laval's 50-metre pool at the Centre PEPS.

The Martlets finished first of six schools with 360.5 points, edging out the second-place Montreal Carabins (342). It was the first meet victory for the McGill women, ranked No.7 in Canada, in eight years, since winning the conference championship meet, Feb. 11-12, 2012.

On the men's side, No.3 ranked McGill finished third with 334 points, behind meet-winning Ottawa (379) and second-place Montreal (344).

McGill swept the combined standings -- for the second time this season, a feat previously accomplished in a 2011 Quebec Cup meet -- with a combined 694.5 points, finishing a slim 8.5 ahead of the Carabins (686.0).

In the 11 events, the McGill women combined for a meet-high five gold medals, along with a pair of silvers and three bronzes. On the men's side, McGill also collected a meet-high five gold medals, in addition to one silver and a pair of bronzes.

Danyluk, a 21-year-old anatomy freshman from Rivière-des-Prairies, Que., scored a meet-high 658.5 points on the FINA scale to edge out Anais Arlandis of the Montreal Carabins for female athlete-of-the-meet honours by 52 points.

The 5-foot-7 sprinter finished atop the podium in the 50-metre backstroke (30.16), 100 back (1:04.79), 200 butterfly (2:20.50) and swam leadoff on the winning the 4x50 medley relay (1:59.81).

She was joined on that winning quartet by Grace Valihora of Toronto, Kelsey Crocker of Calgary and Nikki van Noord of Hudson, Que.

In the men's division, Secchi, a 19-year-old management sophomore from Aix-en-Provence --  in southern France -- scored a meet-high 668.5 points on the FINA scale to edge out Ottawa's Davide Casarin by 18 points for male athlete-of-the-meet honours.

The 5-foot-10 sprinter won the 50 butterfly (24.65), 50 backstroke (26.60), 100 back (57.44) and swam leadoff on the winning the 4x50 medley relay (1:45.43).

Secchi was joined on the winning relay by Kade Wist of  Calgary, Brian Yu of Beijing and Brandon Freiberger of Ladner, B.C.

The team will stay overnight in Quebec City to compete in the fourth Quebec Cup competition, slated for Saturday at 1 p.m. Laval is hosting back-to-back meets because the second meet of the season was initially scheduled to be hosted by Ottawa but was canceled. Since both races in Quebec Cup meets are being held in a 50m pool instead of a standard 25m pool, all school and conference records cannot be broken as they are based on 25m venues.
