QUEBEC CITY --
Myriam Labrecque registered a three-save shutout and three different Laval players scored as the Rouge et Or blanked visiting McGill 3-0 in women's soccer, at Stade Telus, Friday.
Laval, which dominated the shots on net with a 10-3 advantage, took a 2-0 lead into halftime and added one more in the second stanza.
McGill goalkeeper
Annabelle Matysiak made seven saves, many of them spectacular, in a losing cause.
"The score was a fair one and they played better than us but we can do better," said McGill head coach
Jose-Luis Valdes. "The first 25 minutes, they pressed us very well and we were hesitant in moving the ball. That gave Laval a lot of balls on turnovers, which translated into a lot of chances. And clearly they can finish because they scored 10 goals on Concordia the other night. We played better late in the first half and in the second half but we were too far behind."
Mireille Patry opened the scoring in just the ninth minute of play with what proved to be the game-winner.
Kim Tremblay made it 2-0, converting a corner kick with a header in the 33rd minute.
Jessica Bunker put the contest out of reach in the 83rd minute.
Both teams are now off until Sept. 6. Laval, which improved to 2-0-0 in the RSEQ standings, will travel to Montreal to meet the Carabins (2-0) while McGill (1-1-0) will make the short trek down Sherbrooke Street to meet UQAM (2-0) at Stade Saputo.
