MONTREAL -- Rookie Elliot Esposito-Menard scored 11 points as McGill defeated Montreal 31-21 to wrap up the regular season of RSEQ men's rugby at Percival Molson Stadium on Friday.

The Redmen (3-4-0), who were winless through the first four games of the season but went undefeated through their final three contests, will rematch with Montreal (3-4-0) in the RSEQ quarter-final on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Terrain Vincent d'Indy.

Esposito-Menard, a 5-foot-10, 169-pound management freshman from Spain, earned his points by successfully converting all four Redmen tries and making a penalty kick.

The teams were knotted 14-14 at the intermission but McGill's Alex Pantis of Beaconfield, Que., scored a try just three minutes into the second half to give the hosts momentum. Sebastien Boyer of Town of Mt. Royal, Que., followed it up with another try in the 56th minute and Esposito-Menard made his penalty kick in the 66th.

Rhys McRae-McKee of Pte. Claire, Que., and Kyle Makischuk of Toronto scored first-half tries for McGill. McRae-McKee was named Game MVP for the hosts.

The Carabins' scoring came from Benjamin Hartley, who recorded 11 points, and Pierre Dupont, who had the other 10. Noah Sloot earned MVP status for Montreal.
