MONTREAL -- Christopher Stanford of Quebec City scored twice and racked up two RBIs on three hits leading McGill to an 8-3 win over the Université de Montréal in Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association play at Ahuntsic Park, Tuesday.

It spoiled UdeM's home and season opener before a boisterous crowd and was the third consecutive victory for the undefeated Redmen, who sit atop the CCBA Northern Division with a 3-0 record.

The lead changed hands five times before the Redmen broke open a 2-2 saw-off with five runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by Stanford's two-run double off Simon Brisebois, scoring Sam Savoie and Sebastiano Scalzo.

Hitting sixth in the batting order, Stanford continued his torrid start to the young season with a 3-for-4 performance. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound catcher is batting .400 after three games with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

McGill starter Bryan Corona struck out nine hitters en route to registering the win. He allowed two earned runs on a pair of hits and four walks over 5.2 innings. Charlie Loignon took the loss for Montréal, allowing five runs in 5.1 innings. He walked one batter and struck out one.

McGill closer Eric Broatch put away the final four outs to record the save.

McGill grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Sasha Lagarde singled,  stole second base, moved to third then scored when brother Andre Lagarde grounded out to third.

Montréal responded with one run in the first on an RBI double by Brisebois, then took a 2-1 advantage in the third on an error, bringing home Francis Gendron.

The Redmen evened the score at 2-2 in the top of the fifth when Stanford doubled to right field and eventually scored on Lagarde's infield ground-out.  After McGill's five run outburst in the sixth inning, Montreal tallied their final run in the bottom of inning.

UdeM (0-1) will host Concordia (0-0) on Thursday. The Redmen (3-0) hope to continue their modest win streak when they travel to the nation's capital on Saturday for a doubleheader against the Ottawa Gee-Gees (0-0), beginning at 12 noon.
