CÔTE ST. LUC, Que. — Nathaniel Steffler's two-out single in the bottom of the seventh drove in Gabriel Reque-Cruz from second base as McGill edged Acadia 2–1 in a walk-off win Saturday morning at the Canadian university invitational baseball championship at Gary Carter Field in Pierre Elliott Trudeau Park.
The dramatic victory eliminated Acadia (1–2) and kept McGill's title hopes alive at 2–1. The Redbirds will make a short trip across town for another must-win matchup against Carleton (2–1) in a 2:30 p.m. start at the Centre Sportif Claude Robillard.
McGill struck first in the opening inning when Robert Glusker singled, stole second and scored on a fielding error to make it 1–0. Acadia pulled even in the fifth as Ben Cairns singled and later came home on Tyler Croteau's RBI base hit to right. From there, pitching ruled until the seventh, when Reque-Cruz ripped a double to left and Steffler followed with the game-winning knock.
Reque-Cruz, Steffler and Eli Brisman each had two hits for McGill, which finished with eight hits and three errors. Acadia recorded six hits and one error.
McGill starter Donovan Worrall was sharp over his six innings of work. the The neuroscience senior from South Africa allowed just one unearned run on six hits while striking out five and walking three in a 105-pitch outing. Reliever Robert Passmore-Waugh (1–0) of Wakefield, Que., worked a scoreless seventh to earn the win.
Acadia's Patrick Dobbin was equally strong in a no-decision, giving up one unearned run on five hits over four innings with four strikeouts and no walks. Cairns (0–1) took the loss, yielding one run on three hits with three strikeouts in 2? innings. He also went 2-for-4 at the plate and stole two bases to lead the Axemen offence

LUC, Québec — Le simple de Nathaniel Steffler avec deux retraits en fin de septième manche a permis à Gabriel Reque-Cruz de marquer depuis la deuxième base, et McGill a battu Acadia 2-1 samedi matin lors du championnat universitaire canadien de baseball au Gary Carter Field, dans le parc Pierre Elliott Trudeau.
Cette victoire spectaculaire a éliminé Acadia (1-2) et maintenu les espoirs de titre de McGill à 2-1. Les Redbirds feront un court trajet à travers la ville pour un autre match décisif contre Carleton (2-1) qui débutera à 14 h 30 au Centre sportif Claude-Robillard.
McGill a frappé le premier dans la première manche lorsque Robert Glusker a frappé un simple, volé la deuxième base et marqué sur une erreur de champ pour porter le pointage à 1-0.
