COTE ST. LUC, Que. -- Sophomore
Sam Groleau of Montreal racked up three hits, a pair of RBIs and one run scored as McGill cruised to an 11-3 victory over Concordia in Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association action at Gary Carter Field, Thursday.
The game was decided quickly as McGill exerted its will early, scoring eight runs over the first three innings.
McGill leadoff batter
Sasha Lagarde, a first-year transfer also from Montreal, went 2-for-3 at the plate, with a pair of walks, one RBI and three runs scored.Two other teammates contributed two hits apiece, namely
Christopher Stanford (2-for-3, one BB, one RBI, one run) and
Camden Lawhead (2-for-2, two BB, two runs).
Concordia's offence was led by a flawless day at the dish by
Dario Vincelli, who went 2-for-2 against McGill's pitching. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the seventh inning.
Redmen starting pitcher
Jack Pantalena surrendered four hits and three runs over 4.1 innings for the victory. He threw 107 pitches, struck out four and walked seven. Concordia starter
Sam Belisle-Speinger took the loss. He allowed eight runs on five hits in 2.1 innings, walking seven and striking out seven.
McGill closer
Benji Kaiserman put away the final eight outs to record the save.
The Redmen, who improved to 12-4 overall and 8-1 in CCBA play, will now cross the border for a pair of exhibition doubleheaders against American teams. They play Ursinus College, an NCAA squad, in Collegeville, Penn., on Saturday, then head to Scranton, Penn., to confront Lackawanna College of the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association.
