Duforest and Groleau spark Redmen baseball rout over Gee-Gees

DOLLARD DES ORMEAUX, Que -- Jonathan Duforest banged out three hits and tallied three runs, while Sam Groleau homered as McGill clobbered visiting Ottawa 11-1 in Game 1 of a Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association doubleheader, Sunday, at Lake Road Park.
 
McGill, which improved to 5-1 in league play, easily handled Ottawa (1-3) pitching as seven hitters combined for 12 hits, nine RBIs and 10 runs scored. The Redmen scored in every inning before the game was shortened to five innings on a mercy rule. The home side tallied one run in both the first and second, followed by three runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings.
 
Duforest, who boosted his league-leading batting average to .500 on the season, doubled in the second inning and singled in both the third and fourth.  He now has seven hits in 14 at bats.
 
In the third, McGill scored on a two-run double by Jack Pantalena, plating Emerson Dohm and Christopher Stanford.
 
Groleau's solo homer sparked the three-run flurry in the fifth, which also included an RBI single by Emerson Dohm and came around to score on consecutive errors.
 
McGill starter Benji Kaiserman went the distance for the win, striking out seven Ottawa batters in five innings. He allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks.
 
Gee-Gees starter Anseno Selotario was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed eight runs in 3.2 innings, walked three and struck out two.

The two teams tango again in the second game of the twin-bill at 3 p.m.
