MONTREAL --
Andrew Manson of Scotland scored 14 points as the McGill Redmen defeated Bishop's 27-10 in RSEQ men's rugby at Percival Molson Stadium, Friday.The result extended McGill's undefeated streak against BU to 3-0-1 dating back to a 15-13 loss in Lennoxville on Nov. 7, 2014.
The Redmen carried a 17-10 edge into the intermission, courtesy of four penalty kicks and an unconverted try.
Manson, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound exchange student from the University of Edinburgh, made four penalty kicks -- in the 12th, 21st, 45th and 46th minutes -- and successfully converted a try in the last minute of the contest. He currently ranks second in the RSEQ scoring race with 35 points, 12 behind
Rémi De Marassé of the Montreal Carabins,
Economics junior
Alex Russell of England scored a try for the Redmen in the 28th minute, and
Jamie Wilson, an investment management senior also from England, had a 40th-minute penalty kick. Wilson finished with eight points after adding a try in the 80th minute, which Manson converted.
Sean Smallwood put Bishop's on the board first with a try in the 12th minute, converted by
Ewan Lawton.
Long Tim Nixon's 35th-minute penalty kick was the only other scoring play for the Gaiters.
Both teams next play on Oct. 16 when McGill (4-1-0) visits Concordia (1-3-0) and Bishop's (3-2-0) takes on Sherbrooke (0-3-1). With two games remaining before playoffs and a 14-point lead over second-place Concordia, McGill's magic number to clinch the division is a tie or victory.
