MONTREAL --
Alex Pantis of Beaconsfield, Que., scored 15 points as McGill crushed the Stingers 40-0 in RSEQ men's rugby, Sunday, at Concordia Stadium.
The results gave McGill a season sweep over the Stingers and extended their head-to-head streak to 4-0-1 in regular season play, dating back to a 19-13 Concordia victory in 2013. The Redmen now own a 5-1 record with one game to go in the regular season and have clinched a berth in the East Division semifinal.
Pantis, a 5-foot-9, 225-pound economics freshman, tallied his points on the strength of three tries.
McGill led 14-0 at the intermission, courtesy of two converted tries.
Scott Thompson of Chelsea, Que., registered a pair of tries for the Redmen, and teammate
Quentin Dubois of England added another. Exchange student
Andrew Manson of Scotland made three successful conversions, while
Jamie Wilson of England and
Will Stone of Toronto converted one try apiece.
Both teams wrap up the regular season on Oct. 21. The Stingers (1-5-0) will take on Sherbrooke (0-4-2), while McGill (5-1-0) hosts ETS (1-4-1) at Percival Molson Stadium in a 7 p.m. start.
