COTE St. LUC, Que -- It wasn't perfect but a marathon mop-up job by reliever Benji Kaiseman kept Carleton off the board for 7.2 innings as McGill rallied to defeat visiting Carleton 7-5 in 11 innings to take the first game of a doubleheader in Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association play, Saturday, stretching their win streak to 10.
The game went back-and-forth with six lead changes heading into the final inning.
McGill, which banged out a dozen hits, finally managed to grab the lead for good on an RBI double by Sam Groleau off Ryan Burnside, to cash in Rocky Hroch with the winning run.
Kaiseman struck out four and allowed three walks and four hits in relief of starter Joe Enea, who struggled, allowing five runs in just 3.1 innings.
The McGill offence was sparked by Jamie Fuoco and James Pavelick, who teamed up for five hits and five RBIs.
In the bottom of the first, Carleton grabbed an early 3-0 lead. Shawn Green singled, stole second base then scored along with Ethan Nodwell on an RBI double by Burnside, who crossed the plate after an RBI double by Andrew Goddard.
The Redmen cashed in on an RBI single by Pavelick in the second inning, which scored Zachary Aaron, then added another run in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5, forcing extra innings.
Burnside was charged with the loss. He lasted just four innings, walked three, struck out three, and allowed two runs.
