Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. –
Patrick Delisle-Houde potted a pair of goals from but it was in vain as McGill fell 4-3 to the Clarkson University Golden Knights in a spirited CIS-NCAA exhibition men's hockey game at Cheel Arena, Saturday. Delisle-Houde, a native of Quebec City, netted markers in both the first and second periods.
The teams combined for 108 penalty minutes -- divided equally -- including four ejections. McGill's
Etienne Boutet was tossed in the first period, while teammate
Redgie Bois and two members of the Knights,
Kevin Tansey and
Janick Asselin, were sent off after a skirmish late in the second period. The Knights went 1-for-6 on the power-play, with McGill going 0-for-6.
The Knights opened the scoring on
Jeff DiNallo's power-play goal at 2:45 of the first, and doubled their lead seven minutes later courtesy of
Kelly Summers.
The Redmen came back to tie the game with a pair of goals just 54 seconds apart late in the first. Delisle-Houde put McGill on the board at 17:07 of the first before defenceman
Samuel Labrecque of Granby, Que., a transfer from the Golden Knights, tied the game at the 18:01.
However, the Redmen could not carry their momentum into the second frame, as
Pat Megannety gave Clarkson the lead for good at 1:52.
Jordan Boucher scored the eventual game-winner midway through the period. Delisle-Houde's second goal of the game, with 2:17 left in the second, rounded out the scoring.
Third-year goaltender
Jacob Gervais-Chouinard put in a solid performance for the Redmen. The former member the Sherbrooke Phoenix made 35 saves as the Golden Knights outshot McGill 39-21. Clarkson's third-year goaltender,
Steve Perry, made 18 saves to collect the win.
With the loss, McGill dropped to 113-122-10 lifetime against all NCAA opposition, including 2-8-1 against Clarkson.
The Redmen finished their challenging preseason sechedule with a 2-5 record. They will open the OUA regular season next weekend, visiting the UOIT Ridgebacks on Friday in Oshawa and the Carleton Ravens in ottawa on Saturday. Clarkson (1-0) officially opens their season on Friday against Rochester Institute of Technology.
