FREDERICTON -- Adriano Petrangelo was a workhorse on the hill while Robert Sedin homered and collected three RBIs as McGill University crushed Carleton 9-3 to win their opening contest at the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association national championships on Royals Field. Thursday
It was the sixth straight victory for the Redmen who trailed 1-0 in the first inning but roared back with nine consecutive runs before Carleton could replied with two in the final inning. McGill rattled off one run in the third, four in the fourth, two in the fifth and another pair in the sixth
Petrangelo pitched a complete game allowing two earned runs five hits and three walks while striking out four in seven innings.
Sedin, the Redmen leadoff hitter, was 1-for-4 with a pair of runs and hit a two-run homer in the sixth to put his side ahead 9-1.
Carleton starter Eric Elliott ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, was charged with the loss. He allowed seven runs in four innings, walked two and struck out three.
McGill (1-0) is scheduled to play Montreal (1-0) in their second game on Friday morning at 9 a.m. (Eastern). The Redmen took four of six meetings with UdeM.
