Onslaught over Ottawa stretches unblemished baseball win streak to six

Rob Sedin

DOLLARD DES ORMEAUX, Que. -- Robert Sedin collected seven runs batted in with a grand slam home run and a bases-clearing double as McGill overwhelmed Ottawa 13-2 in a rain-shortened collegiate baseball game at Lake Road Park, Saturday.

The second game of the doubleheader was rained out.

It was the sixth straight victory for the Redmen (6-0), who sit atop the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association's Northern Division, three wins ahead of both Concordia (3-1) and Carleton (3-3).

Sedin, who batted 2-for-4 at the plate, ignited a six-run second inning with a three-run double, followed by a two-run homer by Jamie Fuoco, who had put the Redmen ahead 1-0 in the first inning with an RBI double. He finished with a 3-for-3 performance and three RBIs.

Second baseman Tyler Welence continued his hot hand, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.

The visiting Gee-Gees answered back with one in the top of the third but McGill responded with five more runs in the bottom of the inning, on Sedin's grand slam and an RBI single by Rocky Hroch, who went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. The Redmen made it 13-1 in the fourth and Ottawa closed out the scoring with a run in the top of the fifth.

McGill starter Ryan Kramer posted a dominant, eight-strikeout performance over five innings of work. He walked one, scattered four hits and allowed no earned runs for the victory.

Scott Adams went 2-for-3 at the plate for Ottawa, with a single, double and an RBI. Teammate Shawn Watt was charged with the loss, allowing 13 runs in four innings. He walked four and struck out three.
