Box Score
MONTREAL -- Jonathan Bonneau of Sherbrooke, Que., notched the game-winner with less than six minutes remaining as the McGill University men's hockey team opened their 139th campaign with a 4-3 preseason victory over visiting Royal Military College at McConnell Arena, Friday.

McGill, which had a 39-25 edge in shots, went 2-for-3 on the power-play and snuffed out all seven man-advantage situations by the Paladins.

Bonneau, who previously played four seasons in the QMJHL, set up McGill's second marker and connected on a power-play at 14:22 of the final period to snap a 3-3 draw. The first-year master's student, transferred to McGill after playing three seasons at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, where he scored 24 goals and 52 points in 84 regular season games.

The Redmen, who led 1-0 after one and 3-1 after two, had jumped into a comfortable 3-0 lead on goals by junior Jonathan Brunelle of Boisbriand, Que., rookie Simon Tardif-Richard of Gatineau, Que., and Alexis Millette, a sophomore from Sorel-Tracy, Que.

The latter two goals were scored just 13 seconds apart during the second minute of the middle stanza.

But the Paladins, coached by McGill hockey grad Adam Shell,  rallied to tie the score at 3-3 on goals by Kyle Phillips, Bruce Hornbrook and Scott Domenico.

Sophomore Karel St. Laurent started between the pipes and turned aside all 11 shots faced before giving way to Jacob Gervais-Chouinard of Sherbrooke, Que., who played the final 30 minutes and collected the win, despite conceding three goals on 14 shots.

RMC 'keeper Evan Deviller was beaten four times on 39 shots and took the loss.

McGill (1-0) will host Concordia (0-0) on Saturday (Sept. 13) at 7 p.m. Traffic will be difficult around the McGill Sports Complex on Saturday and Sunday due to a Grand Prix bicycle race. Parc Avenue will be closed and the best access to McConnell Arena by car will be via the west gate entrance on University Street.

REDMEN RAP: Spotted in the crowd at the game was Marc Lajeunesse, who skated for the Redmen from 1986 to 1991 and once scored four goals in a playoff game against Concordia.
