LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Home-field advantage in the playoffs was on the line Friday, when McGill made the two-hour trek to the Eastern Townships, to battle Bishop's in the final men's rugby regular season game at Coulter Field.  When the dust settled, the Gaiters came away with a 15-13 victory to clinch second-place in the five-team RSEQ conference with a 5-2-1 record.

Both sides tallied two tries apiece, with Lee Hudson and Sean Smallwood scoring for the Gaiters. Replying for the Redmen was Emeric Durand de Bousingen and Kyle Makischuk.

McGill missed both conversions and Rob Ashe closed out their scoring with a penalty goal. Nicolas Charlton proved to be the difference, however,making one conversion and adding a penalty kick.
 
McGill claimed third place with a 4-2-2 mark, setting up a rematch in the RSEQ sudden-death semifinal next Saturday at Lennoxville, where the Redmen will be be in danger of halting their eight-consecutive league titles.

The last time the Redmen finished that low in the standings was in 2012 when they battered second-place Bishop's 76-15 en route to a 24-18 conquest over Concordia in the league championship game.

Earlier this season the Gaiters and Redmen battled to a 23-23 tie in Montreal, the Gaiters best result against their Montreal foes since 2002.
