MONTREAL -- A pair of second-half goals, eight minutes apart, gave division-leading Laval a 3-1 victory over McGill in men's university soccer at Molson Stadium, Friday.

The Rouge et Or, who had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks, opened the scoring in the 12th minute of play when Nafi Dicko-Raynauld beat goalkeeper Thomas Daechsel, who was filling in for starter Max Leblond, suspended for having picked up his second yellow card of the season in the previous contest.

McGill evened it up 14 minutes later when fifth-year striker Alexander King, a native of England, converted a pass from Patrick Fusarini of Laval, Que.. For King, it was his team-leading fifth marker of the campaign and moved him into fourth among the league leaders in goals.

In the second half, Laval's Jimmy McLaughlin and Amaury Fauverge tallied in the 58th and 66th minute, respectively.

Daechsel made five saves in a losing effort for the Redmen, while his counterpart, Jean-Francois Desrosiers registered eight saves for the victory between the pipes.

McGill, which is tied for the league lead in victories, sits fourth in the seven-team RSEQ conference with a 4-4 record. They remain two points behind third-place UQAM (4-1-2) and six points ahead of fifth-place UQTR (1-4-3). The Redmen, who have four contests remaining in their regular-season schedule, can close some ground in the standings when they travel to last-place Sherbrooke (1-5-1) on Sunday (Oct. 5) at 1 p.m.

Laval (4-0-4) plays at UQTR at the same time.
