McGill exploded for five runs in the first inning and added three more in the third and coasted the rest of the game in cruise control. The first inning outburst was sparked by an RBI single from
Robert Sedin, a walk by
Rocky Hroch and a three-run double by Vardy.
The third-inning rally began with Hroch stroking an RBI single, bringing home
Jamie Fuoco. That was followed up by a two-run double from the bat of
Steven Rintoul, which cashed in Vardy and Hroch.
Carleton starter
Matt Macdonald was charged with the loss. He allowed eight earned runs on eight hits in five innings, walked one and struck out three.
McGill, the regular-season pennant winners, will await the winner of the Montreal-Concordia semifinal series which is tied at 1-1 and is scheduled to be played on Sunday. UdeM won that doubleheader opener 4-3 on Saturday but Concordia clobbered the Carabins 18-5 in the nightcap.
The North Division final will be played next weekend, with McGill holding home-field advantage.
