Tied 3-3 in the final frame with overtime looming, a tripping penalty called against Warren Steele at 18:23 and Labrecque pinched in from the blueline -- completed a three-way passing play from Cedric McNicoll and Jonathan Brunelle -- and fired a wrist shot from the top of the right faceoff circle. his shot eluded goaltender Kevin Bailie to the far left corner, on the power-play, It was the first career marker as a member of the Redmen for Labrecque, a 5-foot-8, 183-pound rearguard who transferred to McGill this season after playing for Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. He scored 17 goals in 93 games over his three seasons with Clarkson.

"We were fortunate to get a power-play chance late in the game," said McGill head coach Kelly Nobes. "We had real good net-front presence by Patrick Delisle-Houde on that play and a good, heads up shot by Labrecque."

The Redmen finished 1-for-2 on the power-play, while Queen's was 2-for-3.The Gaels found themselves trailing early on after Montrealer Max Le Sieur opened the scoring at 5:12 of the first frame. Queen's knotted the score five minutes later on a goal from Braeden Corbeth of Oakville, Ont. But the Redmen broke the deadlock as the first period came to a close on a goal from David Rose of Longueuil, Que., at 18:29.

McGill quickly added to their lead as the second period began, giving the Redmen a 3-1 lead. The Gaels capitalized on two power-play opportunities as Eric Ming of Williamstown, Ont., and Tyler Moore of Winnipeg scored back-to-back power-play tallies to even the score heading into the third.

Redmen goaltender Jacob Gervais-Chouinard of Sherbrooke, Que., turned aside 33 of 36 shots for the victory. Kevin Bailie of Belleville, Ont., took the loss between the pipes for the Gaels, registering 26 saves. Defenceman Patrick Downe of New Maryland, N.B., led all Queen's skaters with two points, both of them assists. McGill (1-0-0) continues their road trip with a game in Oshawa, Saturday, where they will take on the University of Ontario Institute of Technology Ridgebacks (1-0-1). The Gaels (0-1-0) return to action On Oct. 16 when they travel to UOIT.

REDMEN RAP: Team captain Benoit Levesque returned to the lineup after missing three road games in Colorado last week with an unspecified injury .
