COTE ST. LUC , Que. -- An RBI single by James Pavelick cashed in Rob Sedin as McGill rallied with a wild 9-8 walk-off-the-field win in extra innings over the Universite de Montreal, Wednesday, at Gary Carter Field in Trudeau Park.
The game featured nine lead changes, combined with 24 hits, nine of them for extra bases.
Trailing 7-4 after five innings, the Redmen scored one run in the sixth -- on an RBI double by Sedin to bring home Dan Lynch -- and added three more in the seventh on a two-run single by James Vardy and an RBI single by Adriano Petrangelo -- to force another frame.
Pavelick, the clean-up hitter, went 2-for-5 at the plate with a run and a couple of RBIs. Sedin -- who was batting second in the order -- went 4-for-4 with three doubles, a walk and three runs scored.
Arravinth Anantharajah, McGill's fourth pitcher in the game, collected the win, allowing one run over three innings. He surrendered no hits, struck out three and walked one. Simon Brisebois, took the loss for UdeM, allowing four runs and walking two in just one inning.
It was a key win for McGill, which improved their record to 11-4 atop the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association's Northern Division, 3.5 games ahead of Montreal, who dropped to 7-7.
The Redmen have four games remaining before playoffs, two each against second-place Concordia (10-6) and third-place Carleton (9-7). McGill will host the Stingers on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
