Box Score
MONTREAL -- Max Le Sieur, a sophomore from Montreal, scored back-to-back goals, including a shorthanded effort, as No.5-ranked McGill coasted to a 7-2 victory over Royal Military College at McConnell Arena, Saturday.

McGill, which clinched a playoff berth over the past weekend for the 10th consecutive season, upped their current win streak to four. They also claimed victory over the Paladins for the16th straight meeting -- dating back to the last loss, a 2-1 decision in Kingston on Jan. 26, 2008 -- and improved to 57-8-4 lifetime versus RMC.

The Redmen, who held a 58-20 shot advantage, led 3-0 after one period on goals by sophomores David Rose and Patrick Delisle-Houde along with one from rookie Carl Gelinas

After Mathieu Pompei made it 4-0 at 3:15 of the middle period, Le Sieur went to work, scoring at 4:53 and 7:58 (shorthanded) to put the game completely out of reach at 6-0. It was McGill's sixth shorthanded marker of the season, which ranks as the third-highest total in the league behind UQTR (8) and Lakehead (7).

Forty-seven seconds later, however, RMC junior Scott McDonald connected on a power-play to spoil goaltender Karel St. Laurent's bid for a shutout. Cedric McNicoll replied with his eighth goal, one shy of the team lead, to make it 7-1 for McGill after two.

In the final stanza, the Redmen visibly appeared to ease off the throttle and the Paladins responded with the period's only goal when Frederic Thouin hit paydirt at 18:20.

St. Laurent, who was making only his third career appearance between the pipes for the Redmen, saved 18 of 20 shots and improved his record to 2-1. Paul Dorsey, his counterpart at the other end of the ice, racked up 51 saves in a losing cause as his record tumbled to 0-13.

McGill improved to 16-5-1 with a half-dozen contests remaining on their schedule and continues to lead the OUA East Conference by a slim one-point bulge over UQTR (16-4-0), which has two games in hand. The Redmen will now hit the road for the last trip of the regular season. They play at Laurentian (5-16-0) in Sudbury (Jan. 24) and Nipissing (5-14-1) in North Bay, Ont., (Jan. 25), a pair of teams that are fighting for the final playoff berth. With the OUA's new 10-team realignment in each conference this season, the top eight squads will qualify for the post-season, with No.1 playing No.8, the second-place team meeting No. 7, etc.

The confrontation with Nipissing will be the first since the Lakers upset McGill in the OUA East best-of-three quarter-finals last spring. The teams will cross paths again in the season finale at McConnell Arena, Feb. 14.

REDMEN RAP: Among McGill's 10 lineup scratches was team captain Benoit Levesque, who was rested for the second consecutive game as he continues to mend an upper-body injury... Other scratches due to injury included Jonathan Brunelle and Guillaume Langelier-Parent... Kelly Nobes, who owns a 108-44-4 overall record as head coach of the Redmen, is approaching his 250th career victory... He owns a 249-212-15 lifetime mark in the CIS, including previous stints at RMC and Laurier.
