Perrin prolific, paces rugby Redmen to 10th consecutive win

MONTREAL – Cameron Perrin scored a game-high nine points as the McGill Redmen dominated coasted to a 24-5 victory over visiting Bishop's in RSEQ university rugby at Molson Stadium, Thursday.

McGill, which led 10-5 at halftime, extended their win streak to 10 consecutive league and playoff games, dating back to last year. They currently sit atop the Quebec conference standings with an unblemished 4-0 record.

Perrin, a history senior from North Vancouver, B.C., was in on all four scoring plays for McGill, with a penalty goal and three conversions. The 5-foot-11, 169-pound winger gave the Redmen a 3-0 lead in the 18th minute of play with a penalty goal. Twelve minutes later, he converted a try by Konstantin Born, a freshman flanker from Frankfurt, Germany.

Gaiters rookie Sean Smallwood of Pte. Claire, Que., narrowed the gap to 10-5 when he touched down for a try in the final minute before halftime.

McGill responded quickly in the second half when James Wilson, a freshman from London, England, scored a try, converted by Perrin before the period was three minutes old. Thomas Stokes , a sophomore from Vancouver, B.C., rounded out the scoring with a try for the Redmen with three minutes remaining in the contest.

With just four contests remaining before playoffs, McGill is poised to lock up first place in the five-team RSEQ league. The Redmen will host Sherbrooke (1-2) at Molson Stadium on Oct. 10. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
