OTTAWA -- Adam Gordon of Dollard des Ormeaux, Que., hit a three-run homer to ignite a nine-run rally in the fifth inning as the McGill men's baseball team erased a 7-2 deficit to defeat Carleton 15-7 and split a doubleheader in the nation's capital, Sunday.

In the opener, Charlie Crabb tossed a complete game three-hitter as Carleton held on for a 4-3 victory,

Gordon, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound master's student in electrical engineering, went 1-for-3 in the nightcap, with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, three RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base.

Trailing 7-2 in the fifth inning, his mammoth homer to left field came after left-fielder Joel Ross of Rothesay, N.B., stroked a one-out single, followed by a walk to Casey Auerbach.

"There was no doubt from the minute it left his bat," said Auerbach, a veteran first-baseman from Westmount, Que.,who was 0-for-2 but drew a pair of walks, scored once and had one RBI. "The only question was whether it would be fair or foul."

The rally continued with rookie catcher Steven Rintoul of Kamloops, B.C., working a walk, followed by back-to-back-to-back singles from Nathanial Quirion, Alexander Levis and Jamie Fuoco, tying the score at 7-7. Then shortstop Tyler Welence of Ridgewood, N.J., hit a two-run triple to centre, followed by an RBI single from right fielder Channing Arndt of Yarmouth, Maine.

Ahead 11-7, the Redmen roared again in the sixth, adding four more runs.

Nontreal native Zachary Aaron, a freshman, collected the victory in relief of starter LJ Aguinaga. Dan Porter pitched the final two innings.

McGill, which improved to 3-3 in league play, will confront the Montreal Carabins on Monday night in Ahuntsic.
