Box Score
OTTAWA --
Mitch Porowski registered a hat-trick as Carleton upset the No.5-ranked McGill Redmen 6-4 in OUA men's hockey, at the CU Ice House, Saturday.
McGill, who entered the game on the verge of a CIS record shutout sequence after posting three consecutive shutouts, needed to keep Carleton off the scoresheet for 39:58 to break the CIS standard of 219:57 set last year by Alberta.
Porowski's first goal, a power-play marker at 5:14 of the opening period, halted the shutout sequence at 185:13.
It wasn't the only McGill streak to fall by the wayside as the Ravens went 3-for-7 on the power-play. It marked the first time that McGill had given up a PP marker this season, snapping a streak of 22 consecutive kills from the start of the season.
Carleton, which had a 33-28 edge in shots, led 3-2 after the first period and 6-3 after two.
Alexis Millette, a rookie forward from Sorel-Tracy, Que., tallied twice for the Redmen, the first two regular-season markers of his collegiate career. Including preseason games, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound science freshman now has seven points, including five goals in seven games overall.
Rounding out the scoring for the Redmen was
Cedric McNicoll of Longueuil, Que., and defenceman
Ryan McKiernan of White Plains, N.Y.
Other marksmen for the Ravens included
Damian Cross with two, and
Jeff Hayes.
McGill netminder
Andrew Flemming, who entered the game with back-to-back shutouts, started but was beaten four times on 19 shots. He gave way to rookie Jacob Chouinard, who played the next 35 minutes and was saddled with the loss. He allowed two goals on 14 shots.
Down by two in the final minute, McGill pulled their goalie for the last 27 seconds but couldn't take advantage of the extra manpower.
Ravens goalie
Ryan Dube kicked aside 24 of 28 shots to collect the win, improving to 3-0 on the season.
McGill still sits atop the OUA East Division with a 3-1-1 record, perched one precarious point ahead of Carleton (3-1-0), which has a game in hand. The Ravens play at Ottawa (1-4-0) on Oct. 26, while the Redmen are off until next weekend, when they play road games at RMC (Nov. 1) and Concordia (Nov. 2).
