OTTAWA -- Just when you thought they were out... they pull you back in.
Defenceman

The two teams had clashed in Montreal a week earlier and it was all Carleton, from start to finish as the Ravens outshot an under-manned McGill squad by a 45-18 margin and skated to a 5-2 triumph. But what a difference a week makes!
McGill may have been a no-show for the Jan. 4 loss on home-ice to the Ravens but they definitely showed up in the nation's capital for this one and it was a see-saw affair worth the price of admission.
It was the second straight win for the Redmen after snapping a four-game losing streak, including a pair of non-conference losses at Lakehead over the Christmas break.
"It was certainly a big win for us and I would say that it was our most complete game of the season," said Redmen mentor
Kelly Nobes, who improved to 85-31-2 in three seasons overall behind the McGill bench. "Our power-play was good, scoring twice in three chances and our penalty-kill was 5-for-5. We did a lot of small things well that allowed us to only give up 22 shots against. We got pucks in deep at their blueline. We had a good F-3 (positional play by the third forward) and I don't recall many odd-man breaks against us."
The Redmen looked ready to play right from the opening whistle when
Benoit Levesque found himself of a clear breakaway before the game was two minutes old but he was stoned by Ravens goaltender Ryan Dube of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
Undaunted, McGill capitalized on the power-play moments later when McKiernan's point shot eluded Dube at 3:59.
Ryan MacLean of Burlington, Ont., tied the score at 5:51 of the middle stanza but McKiernan countered again from the blueline with the man-advantage at 14:37. It was McKiernan's sixth marker in league play, which leads all OUA blueliners. His 17 points ranks third in the rearguard scoring race, four behind Windsor's Steve Ferry and three in arrears of Ottawa's Dominic Jalbert.
Ottawa native Mitch Porowski scored for the Ravens at 18:46 and the two teams entered the final period tied at 2-2, setting the stage for Rose's heroics.
Carleton had a 22-20 edge in shots but fifth-year netminder
Hubert Morin of St. Georges de Beauce, Que., looked solid for his second straight start and made 20 saves while improving his record to 7-2 on the season and 89-32-2 lifetime. It was also Morin's 131st appearance overall for the Redmen, breaking the team record held by All-Canadian Mathieu Poitras, who starred in 130 contests between the pipes for McGill from 2004 to 2008 and posted an 84-36-6 overall record.
The third-place Redmen are now back in the race for first-place with a 12-6-1 record. They trail division-leading Carleton (13-5-2) by only three points with a game in hand. Second-place UQTR (13-4-1) is only two points ahead of the Redmen and will visit McGill next Wednesday (Jan. 16 at 7 p.m.) for the annual Management Carnival Game and a sell-out is expected. Only a few hundred tickets remain unsold and they can be purchased in advance during business hours, seven days a week, at the Redbird Sports Shop, inside the Currie gymnasium at 475 Pine Avenue West. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. Children 12-and-under are admitted free.
REDMEN RAP: Rookie defenceman
Jean-Philippe Mathieu, who missed 17 games overall with a broken leg, was in mid-season form in only his second game back since returning to the lineup and collected a pair of assists... The game was delayed for about seven minutes with 3:16 left in the third period when a pane of glass was dislodged after a collision in the corner behind the McGill net... The Redmen, who have won two of three meetings with the Ravens this season, improved to 22-15-1 lifetime against Carleton, including an 8-9-0 road record.
