KINGSTON, Ont. - A pair of first-half tries by Tim Richardson of Vancouver, B.C., led the Queen's Gaels to a 24-0 shutout over McGill in non-conference men's rugby action at Tindall Field in Kingston, Thursday. The veteran civil engineering major scored in the 27th minute and again four minutes later to put the home side up 17-0 at halftime.

"It was a solid effort to open the season," said Peter Huigenbos, the Gaels' head coach. "We were pretty loose, and we struggled to keep our composure in the attack, but defensively our guys are locked in."

The Gaels' other first-half try came from Pat Richardson, also from Vancouver, in the 20th minute. Rounding out the scoring was Toronto native George Gleeson's try in the 59th minute try, combined with fullback David Worsley's second conversion of the afternoon. Worsley hails from Vancouver as well.

"The shutout was nice to get," said Huigenbos. "McGill is a well-coached team and they were unlucky not to have success at our goal line."

McGill remains in Kingston and will play the Dartmouth College Big Green on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Gaels return to action on Sunday morning, as they host Dartmouth at 9 a.m. Both of those games are set for newly-renovated Nixon Field (formerly Kingston Field).
