MONTREAL -- Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept-Iles,
Que., scored at 39 seconds of overtime and Vanessa
Davidson assisted on all three goals as No.1-ranked McGill
skated to a 3-2 victory over the 10th seeded Montreal Carabins in
women's hockey at McConnell Arena, Saturday. The result
extended McGill's wiin streak over CIS opponents to 59 consecutive
games. The CIS record is 67 held by the Alberta Pandas.
McGill led 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 after two, on
goals by Rebecca Martindale and rearguard
Cathy Chartrand, respectively.
But the Carabins storrmed back in the final period when former
McGill star Marie-Andree-Auger beat netminder
Gabriel Smithat 1:34. A power play marker by Annie-Claude
Dumas knotted the score at 2-2 with 11:49 remaining in
regulation.
The Martlets outshot Montreal by a lopsided 46-17 margin but had
a hard time solving goaltender Catherine Herron, a
former Martlet who graduated two years ago.
The Carabins (5-1-1) are off until Nov. 13 when they host
Ottawa, who lost 3-2 in overtime at Carleton on Sunday. McGill will
put their lengthy win streak and unblemished 5-0 record at Ottawa
(2-4) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
