MONTREAL - Vanessa Davidson of Kirkland, Que.,
tallied twice and assisted on two others as No.1- McGill crushed
the tenth-ranked Montreal Carabins in women's university hockey at
CEPSUM Arena, Friday.
It was the 57th consecutive victory against CIS opponents for
the Martlets (3-0) and the first defeat of the season for the
upstart Carabins (5-1), a new entry in the Quebec league this
season.
Defenceman Cathy Chartrand of Lac Nominingue,
Que., netted one marker and set up three others, while
Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept-Iles, Que., and
Carly Hill of Dorval, Que., each contributed a
goal and a pair of assists for the winning side. Alessandra
Lind-Kenny and Rebecca Martindale rounded
out the scoring for the Martlets.
McGill led 2-0 after the opening period, 6-0 after two and
stretched it to 7-0 before the Carabins broke the goose-egg at
15:32 of the final stanza on a power play goal by
Marie-Helene Suc. It ended McGill's shutout
sequence at 308 minutes, 51 seconds in regular-season play, dating
back to a goal by Carleton on Feb. 15, 2009.
Marie-Andree Leclerc-Auger, who played for
McGill last year, potted the final Carabins goal with 1:26
remaining in the contest.
Goaltender Gabrielle Smith made 21 saves for
the victory. The Martlets (3-0-0) will host Carleton (2-1-0) on
Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m.
McGill has won 32 straight games over the Ravens and are 44-0-1
lifetime against them
