MONTREAL -- Connor Goodwin of New Westminster, B.C., and Leslie Oles of Beaconsfield, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Nov. 3, 2013.
Goodwin, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound attackman on the men's lacrosse team, merited player-of-the-game honours in both of McGill's contests at the Canadian university championship tournament hosted by McGill last weekend.
The 19-year-old electrical engineering junior scored 12 points, including seven goals, in two games as the Redmen claimed silver at the six-team tourney. He scored four times and set up two others in a 15-6 semifinal victory over Queen's on Saturday, then followed with a 3-goal, 3-assist effort in a 14-11 loss to Guelph in the gold medal contest. A product of New Westminster secondary school, he joined the Redmen in 2011.
Oles, a 22-year-old physical & health education senior on the No.1-ranked women's hockey team, scored eight points, including three goals, in two weekend victories for the undefeated Martlets.
The speedy 5-foot-3 forward tallied five points, including a pair of goals, in a 6-2 road win at Carleton on Friday. She then added a goal and two helpers in a 4-2 victory over Ottawa, Sunday. Oles leads the Quebec conference scoring race with four goals and 11 points in just four contests. She joined the Martlets in 2010 after graduating from St. Thomas high school and Kuper Academy.
Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
