MONTREAL –
Emilia Mastromatteo of Kenora, Ont., and
Hocine Feddag from St. Hubert, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, presented by
Restaurant Poulet Rouge, for the period ending Feb. 2, 2025.
Mastromatteo is a 20-year-old science junior majoring in anatomy and cellular biology. She was McGill's top scoring female swimmer as the team extended its win streak to 19 consecutive regular season meets by finishing first of six teams at the fourth Coupe Universitaire, held last Saturday in Trois-Rivieres, Que. The 5-foot-6 multi-stroke specialist tallied 570.5 points on the FINA scale while collecting a pair of gold medals, one silver and a bronze. She won the 50-metre breaststroke in 32.25 seconds and swam leadoff on the winning 4x100 medley relay (4:12.12), both of them met the qualifying times for the U SPORTS national championship.
Feddag is a 19-year-old mechanical engineering freshman on the men's swim team. He was McGill's top scoring male as the Redbirds extended their win streak to 11 consecutive regular season meets by finishing first of six teams at the fourth Coupe Universitaire, held last Saturday in Trois-Rivieres, Que. Feddag produced a pair of relay gold medal performances in addition to a silver in the 50-metre freestyle. He swam the second leg of the winning 4x100 free (3:21.67) and was on the winning 4x100 medley relay (3:43.16).
