MONTREAL -- Brianna Miller of Pointe Claire, Que., and Francois Bourque of Terrebonne, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub & Grill, for the period ending Oct. 13, 2013.
Miller, a 5-foot-6 back with the women’s rugby team scored 23 points in a pair of victories over the weekend. The 22-year-old physical education senior converted three tries as McGill clinched second place in the RSEQ standings with a 21-13 victory over Ottawa on Saturday. In the process, she wrapped up her third league scoring title in as many years with 98 points in seven games. On Sunday, she tallied 17 points in a 27-17 non-conference victory over No. 6–ranked St. Francis Xavier, registering one try, a pair of penalty goals and three conversions. Miller is a product of John Abbott College.
Bourque, a 6-foot-5 rookie forward with the men’s basketball team, tallied 51 points and 30 rebounds over three games and was named to the all-star team at the Jack Donohue Tip-off tournament in Ottawa, where he led McGill to a 2-1 second-place finish. The 20-year-old economics freshman registered consecutive “double-doubles” over the first two games -- a 94-88 overtime loss to Ottawa and a 72-62 victory over Queen's -- and was one rebound shy of collecting a third double-double in Sunday's 81-77 win over St. FX. Bourque shot a stellar 64.7 per cent from the field, making 22 of 34 shots and went 7-for-14 from the foul line. He also had four assists, a pair of blocks and two steals. He joined the Redmen this fall after graduating from College Montmorency.
Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
