MONTREAL -- Robert Ashe of Ottawa and Mélodie Daoust of Valleyfield, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Nov. 11, 2012.
Ashe, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound winger with the men's rugby team, scored five tries as visiting McGill routed Bishop's 76-15 in a Quebec university semifinal in Lennoxville, Sunday. The win qualified McGill for this week's RSEQ league championship game, slated for Sunday (1 p.m., SSN), at Concordia. Ashe, a 19-year-old accounting sophomore, is a product of Asbury College in Ottawa
Daoust, a 20-year-old physical education sophomore with the women's hockey team, scored six points, including four goals, in two victories last week. The 5-foot-6 centre tallied the game-winner in a 3-1 decision over Concordia last Saturday and registered a hat-trick with two assists in Sunday's 8-3 conquest at Ottawa. Daoust, who was the CIS rookie of the year last season, currently sits second in the CIS national scoring race with 21 points, including 12 assists, in just eight contests. She joined the Martlets in 2011 out of College Edouard-Montpetit.
Each athlete will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
