Ludovyck Ciociola of Montreal and
Marika Labrecque of Lac Etchemin, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending on Sept. 18, 2022.
Ciociola, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound rookie goalkeeper with the men's soccer team, registered 15 saves over two games, leading the Redbirds to a 1-0 shutout over division-leading UQTR last Friday and a 1-1 tie at Laval on Sunday. A 21-year-old management freshman,
Ciociola made five saves in the win over UQTR at home and 10 saves in the tie against No.6 ranked Laval at Quebec City. He enrolled at McGill this year after playing for College Ahuntsic.
Labrecque, a 5-foot-5 forward with the women's hockey team, scored three goals and added an assist in two preseason games against Queen's. Then on Monday, she joined the McGill golf team to compete at a two-day RSEQ conference tournament in Trois-Rivieres. With the hockey team, Labrecque had one goal and an assist in a 4-3 overtime loss on Saturday, then added a pair of markers in a 4-2 loss in Kingston, Sunday. In golf, she shot 90 and 87 over the first two rounds, heading into Tuesday. The 24-year-old continuing education student in management returned for a fifth season after graduating with physical education degree in 2021. A product of Dawson College, she enrolled at McGill in 2017.
