MONTREAL – Melodie Daoust of Valleyfield, Que., and Jean-Philippe Mathieu of Loretteville, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub & Grill, for the period ending Jan. 27, 2013.

Daoust, a 5-foot-6 centre with the women's hockey team, scored seven points, including six assists as McGill came from behind to sweep two games last week, extending their record to 15-0 in regular-season play and their overall win streak to 20 against CIS opponents. The 22-year-old physical education sophomore continues to lead the CIS scoring race with 17-29-46 in just 15 games.  Last week, she set up four goals, including the game-winner in a 7-2 road victory at Carleton last Saturday. A day earlier, she tallied once and added a pair of assists in a 6-1 win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees.  Before joining the Martlets in 2011, she previously played for College Edouard-Montpetit.

Mathieu, a 5-foot-10, 171-pound rookie defenceman on the Redmen hockey team, scored three goals in two games last week. The 21-year-old management freshman tallied twice in a 4-3 road loss at Carleton last Sunday. Two days earlier, he netted one marker in a 3-2 overtime shootout loss against Concordia. A product of the QMJHL's Rimouski Oceanic, Mathieu suffered a suspected broken leg, for the second time this season, in the game at Carleton and is not expected to return before the end of the season.
Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
